The Residence

People at Berkshire Meadows live in four spacious one-story homes or in adapted apartments, specially designed to accommodate the particular needs dictated by the residents' ages and disabilities. Every home has its own lounge, kitchen, dining room, laundry, and handicapped-equipped bathrooms. We also provide assisted living situations with loving families.

Naturally, it is within the nurturing atmosphere of the person's Berkshire Meadows home that he or she also learns most about self-care and daily living skills, and our residence staff are careful to be consistent with behavioral programs and to practice total and augmentative communication techniques.

Weekends provide special opportunities to take advantage of the loveliness of our natural surroundings, with plenty of activities available right outside our doors - sledding, skating or building snowmen in the winter, or playing ball, swinging, picnicking, bicycling, horseback riding, and swimming in the summer. Local towns offer a variety of cultural and social events to attend.

Families

At Berkshire Meadows we strive not only to improve someone's cognitive, emotional, and functional well-being and abilities, but also to increase family understanding of his or her disabilities.

We see ourselves as a team with families, and share as much information as possible regarding all aspects of our program. Parents help develop the individual educational plans. Families are invited to attend Treatment Team planning meetings, and we maintain an open door visiting policy.
